Roger Federer’s partner in the Swiss tennis player’s last game as a professional, Rafael Nadal cried copiously after the defeat to Americans Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock, today (23), by the Laver Cup, in London.

Sitting next to Federer, Nadal constantly put his hands to his eyes in a vain attempt to wipe away tears as the Swiss received tributes for more than 25 years dedicated to tennis.

The Spaniard, however, was not the only one to cry profusely. Honoree of the night, Roger Federer had a hard time delivering his last speech on a tennis court.

After trying to hold back tears while standing next to Nadal, the Swiss didn’t have the same success after taking the mic. Federer spoke loosely, always interrupted by his own emotion.

“It’s exactly what I wanted. Thank you. It was a perfect journey, I would do it all over again,” said the 41-year-old tennis player.

Federer ends his career with 1251 wins and 276 losses. There were 103 titles, 20 of which were Grand Slam titles (eight at Wimbledon, one at Roland Garros, five at the US Open and six at the Australian Open).
