Before going up to the Apex octagon to face the Brazilian Denise Gomes, the Thai Loma Lookboommee he was already facing an uphill battle in his personal life. At a press conference after the UFC Las Vegas 60which took place last Saturday (17), the Asian fighter revealed that she went through a complicated period of depression, which worsened after the loss to Lupita Godinezin November 2021.

After that defeat (to Lupita Godinez) I went home and it was a very difficult time for me because I had been suffering from depression. After the defeat she said to myself: ‘That’s it, it’s over’. The reason I’m here today is because my team and family have always believed in me, believed that I would get better and come back. That’s why I’m here today. I think it’s amazing that I can share this here today. If I improved, so can you. It doesn’t matter if I’m a UFC fighter or not. Everyone can suffer from it,” Loma said.

The Asian fighter celebrated her recovery and took the opportunity to send a message to people who are or have been through this situation.

“I would like to say to people who are suffering from depression and other mental illnesses that I am one of you too. I know how it is, I know how difficult it is. I had suicidal thoughts, I got hurt, I know how deep and dark it can get. I am lucky to have an amazing team and family who love me and have always seen value in me. I want to tell people with mental illness to see value in themselves and to never give up, understanding that things may not get better right away, but they will eventually.”

Loma arrived at Ultimate in 2019 and since then has had four wins and two losses in the largest MMA organization in the world. The Thai fighter has a record in the sport of seven triumphs and three setbacks.
