Although Russell has maintained good consistency with results and performance on the grid, it doesn’t necessarily put him in the running for the title. Aware of this, the Mercedes driver addressed more about what can be expected from the team for the upcoming season.
Russell and Mercedes in 2023
So far, the English driver has 203 points this season, but still far from having results that put him at the top of the podium. After being asked on the official Formula 1 website what to expect for the 2023 season, Russell was clear: “I don’t think anything is impossible. We certainly have a unique and beautiful design with the side. It’s not out of the question that we continue with the design, but not like other cars that change our philosophy completely.”
Still on next season’s car, George Russell added: “However, I think we have to keep developing this car and next year we will see a big evolution on that, I think we have a know the right direction on how to develop the car”.
It is no secret that the current season has not made Mercedes fans, coaching staff and drivers happy. Especially after the Francorchamps and Monza circuits where experts pointed out a possible performance improvement in the team that never took off.
In this regard, the English driver also commented to the press: “I think we understand exactly why circuits like Zandvoort and Budapest make us competitive, and we understand why circuits like this (Monza) and Spa are not so competitive. This does not mean that we can resolve matters overnight.”
