Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is a supporter of Porsche’s entry into Formula 1. The German brand had a pre-agreement to buy half of Red Bull’s shares and enter the grid in 2026, but the project ended up collapsing.

Now, the Stuttgart-based automaker is looking for a new team to partner with or even plant the 11th team on the grid from scratch. In an interview with the German website GPFans, Wolff spoke about the benefits of a brand like Porsche being on the F1 grid, not only for its investments in motorsport, but also for marketing and advertising.

“All big corporations, especially the automotive ones, but not just them because Red Bull is very good at that, not only buy a team and invest large amounts of money, but also more activations, which is beneficial for F1. If a brand like Porsche, which is known the world over, puts marketing money into F1, we will all benefit,” commented the Mercedes boss.

“This is the important part, it’s not just about having the team and playing it, but in every market there would need to be big advertisements, big campaigns, putting the brand there. That’s why having these big brands in F1 is important,” he continued. .

After the approval of the new engine regulations for 2026, Audi announced entry to the grid, in partnership with Sauber. The deadline for automakers to show interest in entering the championship is October 15, and Wolff believes Porsche could join from 2027 or 2028, depending on the plan.

“I don’t think you need to sign by October 15th if you want to enter a following year. It would definitely be an addition to F1 if Porsche wants to enter, they just need to understand if there is another interesting project, if they can buy another team, and maybe that’s not for 2026. Maybe it’s for 2027 or 2028, but it would be a great addition to the grid.”
