The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, fired the head of the presidential guard this Thursday (9), two days after two of its members were accused of planning the assassination of the head of state.
Zelenski issued a decree to dismiss Serhi Rud, but did not appoint a replacement.
The State Security Service (SBU) said this week it had captured two colonels on charges of plotting to kill Zelensky and other senior officials, including SBU director Vasil Maliuk himself and Kirilo Budanov, head of the military intelligence agency. .
According to the SBU investigation, the murders would be a gift for Vladimir Putin when he was sworn in for a new term in the Kremlin, which occurred last Tuesday (7).
According to the agency, the men were recruited by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). They would have been tasked with finding someone close to the presidential guard who would take Zelensky hostage and then kill him. No details were released about how far the alleged plot had progressed before the suspects were arrested. Moscow did not comment on the announcement made by the SBU.
