Result keeps the IPCA within the target. The index accumulated over 12 months remains within the range established by the CMN (National Monetary Council) at 3%. The value has a tolerance margin of 1.5 percentage points, between 1.5% and 4.5%.

Monthly increase was driven by variations in food and pharmaceutical products. The movements place the health and personal care groups (+1.16%) and food and beverages (+0.70%) as the main inflation villains in April.

Health and personal care was impacted by the rise in prices of pharmaceutical products, due to the increase of up to 4.5% authorized by CMED (Chamber of Medicines Market Regulation), from March 31st.

Food inflation accelerated

Among food products, the increase of 0.7% is higher than that seen in March. The acceleration is driven by the items that make up food at home, which jumped from 0.59% in the previous month to 0.81% in April. Food away from home, in turn, rose 0.39%, also above that recorded in March (+0.35%).

Papaya (22.76%), onion (15.63%), tomato (14.09%) and ground coffee (3.08%) were the villains. In April, products were responsible for the most significant variations between foods due to reduced supply.
