Nunes and Tarcísio get closer
The name of the vice-president must have the blessing of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans). After signaling that he would not support Nunes without Bolsonaro’s approval, Freitas embarked on the Emedebista campaign once and for all.
In January alone, the two were together in eight agendas. In meetings, both have highlighted joint projects for public security and the revitalization of the city center, in addition to the importance of alignment between government and city hall, in contrast to Boulos (PSOL), Nunes’ opponent.
Nunes also wants Bolsonaro to embark on his re-election project. After back and forth, the former president decided, in December, to support Nunes in the capital of São Paulo, according to Valdemar. Since then, the PL president has been responsible for forging the alliance through the vice position.
However, other political actors need to be taken into account. The choice of vice-president should be influenced by names such as former president Michel Temer (MDB) and federal deputy Baleia Rossi (MDB-SP), president of the party and campaign coordinator for Nunes.
There are other names in the dispute. The president of the City Council, Milton Leite (União Brasil), and the former head of the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat Fábio Wajngarten were not mentioned by Costa Neto, but their names have already circulated in the media as being considered for vice. Within the PL, the possibility of new names being nominated is not ruled out. Nunes’ team will commission qualitative research with names in the coming weeks.
