Jim Carrey will be back on the big screen! Acclaimed for films such as ‘Almighty’ (2003) and ‘The Truman Show’ (1998), the actor had retired in 2022, but appears to have changed his mind and is cast in ‘Sonic 3’, according to Variety.

In addition to the confirmation from the North American vehicle, this Friday (02), the film’s official pages published a teaser, in which it is possible to hear the iconic laugh of the villain Robotnik, the blue hedgehog’s main antagonist. Carrey, 62, debuted as the character in ‘Sonic: The Movie’ (2020), returning for the sequel released two years later.

At the end of ‘Sonic 2’ — pay attention to spoilers —, Robotnik suffered a fall that appeared to be fatal, but the post-credits scenes revealed that his body was not found, indicating that he did not die.

The feature film directed by Jeff Fowler is scheduled for release in December this year.

In an interview with Access Hollywood given in 2022, the star cited other artistic hobbies and tranquility as reasons for his retirement. “I really like my quiet life, I really like putting paint to canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like – and this is something you’ll never hear another celebrity say as long as there’s time – I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough,” he declared.

At the end of 2023, rumors suggested that Carrey would return to the sets to participate in a sequel to ‘The Grinch’ (2000), but the information was denied by his representatives. The actor has even opposed the production of sequels, claiming that this type of film only serves “commercial” purposes.
