Owner of Havan will have to pay R$85 million for coercing employees to vote for Jair Bolsonaro in 2018; appeal

The president of the PT (Workers’ Party), deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), stated that the conviction of Luciano Hang “it took more than 5 years, but it is exemplary and pedagogical”. The owner of Havan stores was ordered to pay compensation of R$85 million for coercing his employees to vote for former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2018 elections. The decision is subject to appeal.

“People like him only understand the weight of the law when it hurts their pockets”declared Gleisi on Wednesday (31.jan.2024) in his https://twitter.com/gleisi/status/1752809861513965857 (ex-Twitter). For her, “many other Bolsonarian bosses embarrassed, threatened and blackmailed their employees into voting against Haddad in 18 and, in even greater numbers, against Lula in 2022”.

The congresswoman said that these “bosses” they are “as criminal as those who financed and instigated the January 8 coup”. Finally, he stated that “Everyone must be held responsible and punished.”

According to the complaint filed by the MPT (Public Ministry of Labor), Hang would have carried out political campaigns in favor of Bolsonaro and threatened to close the stores in the event of a victory for the then candidate Fernando Haddad (PT) – current Minister of Finance. The company must pay compensation for individual moral damage in the amount of R$1,000 to all employees who worked until October 1, 2018.
