Remember the case
Apolo Gabriel Rodrigues, aged 2, died after being forgotten inside a school van in the Vila Maria region, north of São Paulo, this Tuesday (14).
According to the Military Police, the van driver had forgotten the child inside the vehicle in the morning and only realized it in the afternoon.
The child was taken unconscious by the driver to Hospital Vereador José Storopolli, known as Pronto Socorro Vermelhinho, but arrived dead at the hospital.
The head of security at the Emergency Room contacted the Military Police and the family of the victim, identified as Apolo Gabriel Rodrigues, who turned 2 years old on October 30th.
According to information from the victim’s mother, Kalieli Rodrigues, Apolo had been attending the daycare center for four months and was already using this transport. He was picked up every day at 7:30 am and returned at 4:15 pm.
This Tuesday (14), the mother reported that she was feeling something strange, in addition to Apolo crying before being placed in the van, asking not to go to daycare.
Kalieli also stated that normally her son was placed in the front seat, however, this time he was placed in the back. She also reinforced that it was the same “uncles” who looked for him every day.
When she left work, her family informed her that her son was in the hospital and, when she got there, she received the news.
It was Apolo’s grandmother, Kalieli’s mother, who welcomed the child at the end of the day. Luzinete Rodrigues dos Santos reported that she waited until 4:40 pm and her grandson had not yet arrived. She would still have found it strange that another van was delivering the children, as the usual “aunt” would be feeling ill.
When she went to get her cell phone from home to try to get more information about her grandson, she received a call from the hospital asking her to go there. There, she discovered what had happened.
Apolo was forgotten inside a van, left in a parking lot, from 7:30 am to 4 pm. The incident occurred during a heat wave that hit São Paulo, on one of the hottest days of the year, when the temperature reached almost 40°C.
He was only seen inside the vehicle when the driver, known as “Uncle Flávio”, went to pick up the van to pick up the children at the end of the day.
‘It was irresponsible’, says family
The family believes the employees were irresponsible and demands justice for what happened. Apolo was the youngest son of Kalieli, who is the mother of two other girls, aged 8 and 6.
Driver Flávio Robson Benes and monitor Luciana Coelho Graft were arrested red-handed.
The 90th Police District of Parque Novo Mundo is responsible for the area. But the case was forwarded for registration to the 39th Police District of Vila Gustavo.
