National president of the PDT on an interim basis, the federal deputy André Figueiredo stated that the party will dispute in court the mandates of parliamentarians elected in 2022 and that they are asking to leave the party through letters of consent approved at a meeting this Wednesday morning (8). The party’s stance, guaranteed the leader, will be similar to what happens with the president of the Legislative Assembly of Ceará (Alece), state deputy Evandro Leitão.
“We are going to appeal the way we appealed with the letter of consent that was issued to Evandro. There is no justification for issuing letters of consent. It was very ugly. You call a meeting overnight, riddled with illegalities. If that doesn’t happen, is just a political game, emptying the PDT”André Figueiredo
Interim President of PDT Nacional
Figueiredo’s reaction comes a few hours after the PDT directory in Ceará approved, under the command of senator Cid Gomes, letters of consent for 9 full state deputies and 4 substitutes; 4 sitting federal deputies and 2 substitutes; and 2 councilors. An extraordinary meeting was held this Wednesday morning (8), hours before the national meeting of the party that could remove Cid from command of the group in the State.
Among the party’s parliamentarians with mandates, only state deputies Cláudio Pinho, Antônio Henrique, Queiroz Filho and André Figueiredo himself are not on the list of requests for consent. They are part of the wing of the party linked to former minister Ciro Gomes, which has broken with the group led by senator Cid Gomes.
Still according to Figueiredo, some parliamentarians who asked for consent confided in him that they do not intend to formalize the request before the Court.
“Some of them may have been requested due to the pressure of the moment. I have already spoken to some federal and state officials who said they would not formalize it before the Court. If (the consents) materialize, people can no longer consider themselves part of the PDT. Of course, they will no longer have spaces in the Assembly, Chamber of Deputies”, he said.
In addition to the letters of consent granted this Wednesday, Evandro Leitão was also released by the PDT State Executive to leave the party in August. The case is questioned in court, but the latest decision by the Ceará Regional Electoral Court (TRE-CE) approved the parliamentarian’s disaffiliation from the party.
Arm wrestling
Senator Cid Gomes faces an internal struggle for command of the PDT in Ceará. Currently, Figueiredo temporarily presides over the National Executive of the party, while Cid commands the state directory.
However, his presidency of the party was subject to intervention by the National Executive on October 27th. As the National Executive gave a deadline for the “right to defense”, the senator continued to exercise his role in the Ceará association.
Deliberation on the intervention should take place at the meeting scheduled for this Wednesday, at 6pm, in Brasília, which could remove Cid from the party once and for all.
