The president stated that upon completing 8 weeks of hip surgery he will be “intact” to return to “play soccer” and travel around Brazil.
“In other words, in a demonstration that, when it is 8 weeks since I had the surgery, I will be intact, perfect, to play ball again, to run again, to walk again, to travel around Brazil again, to meet with the Brazilian people. That’s it, we’re back with lots of health to give and to sell”, he stated.
Lula, 78 years old, underwent surgery on September 29 to place a prosthesis on the head of his right femur and correct osteoarthritis in his pelvis. She also had a procedure called blepharoplasty to remove excess skin on her eyelids.
During the recovery period, Lula interrupted trips, face-to-face meetings and was confined to the Palácio da Alvorada. He returned to the Palácio do Planalto on October 23rd.
Lula is expected to resume traveling at COP28, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates at the end of November. According to the president’s medical team, he will be fully fit to travel in November. On his way back, he will pass through Germany for a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Before having hip surgery, Lula maintained a daily exercise routine, which included weight training and walking 9 km on the treadmill. Even during the period in which he was imprisoned – for 1 year and 7 months at the Federal Police Superintendence in Curitiba – he exercised regularly.
