President says he will be “intact” to “play ball” and travel around Brazil when he completes 8 weeks post-surgery
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated this Friday (3.Nov.2023) that he is “back with lots of health to give and to sell” when commenting on his recovery from hip surgery in September. The Chief Executive stated that he has completed 5 weeks since the procedures and is undergoing physiotherapy and gymnastics.
“What is important is that today marks 5 weeks since my surgery. I’ve already gone back to physiotherapy and some gymnastics. I’ve already been walking on the treadmill for 15 minutes. I’m already doing [exercício de] leg. I’m already doing my arm. I’m trying to stretch. I’m doing calf raises“, he said.
The Chief Executive published https://twitter.com/JanjaLula/status/1720417950547521772 in which he appears doing exercises and talking about his recovery. In the post, he wrote: “Soon back on the field and kicking with both legs. Good morning”.
The president stated that upon completing 8 weeks of hip surgery he will be “intact” to return to “play soccer” and travel around Brazil.
“In other words, in a demonstration that, when it is 8 weeks since I had the surgery, I will be intact, perfect, to play ball again, to run again, to walk again, to travel around Brazil again, to meet with the Brazilian people. That’s it, we’re back with lots of health to give and to sell”, he stated.
Lula, 78 years old, underwent surgery on September 29 to place a prosthesis on the head of his right femur and correct osteoarthritis in his pelvis. She also had a procedure called blepharoplasty to remove excess skin on her eyelids.
During the recovery period, Lula interrupted trips, face-to-face meetings and was confined to the Palácio da Alvorada. He returned to the Palácio do Planalto on October 23rd.
Lula is expected to resume traveling at COP28, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates at the end of November. According to the president’s medical team, he will be fully fit to travel in November. On his way back, he will pass through Germany for a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Before having hip surgery, Lula maintained a daily exercise routine, which included weight training and walking 9 km on the treadmill. Even during the period in which he was imprisoned – for 1 year and 7 months at the Federal Police Superintendence in Curitiba – he exercised regularly.
