The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro are investigating students from Colégio Santo Agostinho, in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, for creating fake nudes of at least 25 girls, between 14 and 16 years old. The suspects are students from the 7th to 9th year of the institution. In an interview with O Globo, the mother of one of the victims said that one of the teenagers responsible for publishing the images on social media said he would not be punished “because he was white and rich.”
“The photos began to be released last Friday. However, they did nothing when they found out. The feeling is of impunity. My daughter discovered hers at the beginning of the week. The girls are having anxiety attacks and crying. They It’s exam week and they can’t focus on their studies. These students are still in the same class and they have to live with each other. They make fun of the situation. I heard that one of them said he wouldn’t be punished “because he’s white and rich”, then nothing would happen. They know it’s wrong, they are educated, but they don’t seem to fear it,” said the mother.
The woman also revealed that the girls had their images edited and those responsible are afraid that the fake photos will be used on adult content websites. The mother believes the suspects should be expelled from school.
“On the internet we end up losing control of things. I don’t know where this photo of my daughter ended up. She will have to keep the incident record forever. Nowadays they can even make videos. In the future, someone from her work can receive some recording or photo and think it’s really her. What will she look like? She needs proof that shows she’s not selling adult content or anything like that. We’re chasing justice because we don’t want our daughters to learn to keep quiet in these situations. She, as a woman, needs and deserves to have a voice. These violations of female bodies cannot be normalized,” she told O Globo.
Understand the case
The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro investigates students from Colégio Santo Agostinho da Barra da Tijuca after montages with naked students circulate in Whatsapp groups. Teenagers from grades 7 to 9 are suspected of using artificial intelligence to create the fake images. They would have downloaded an app, uploaded photos of the victims and published them on the internet.
Adolescents may respond for an act similar to the simulation and participation of a child or adolescent in an explicit or pornographic sex scene through tampering, montage or modification of photographs, videos or any other form of visual representation.
In a note sent to parents, Colégio Santo Agostinho said that it sympathizes with the victims and that the episode “scares” and “disappoints” the institution. The school also said that “disciplinary measures will be taken in relation to the acts committed.”
Isis Valverde case
The crime is similar to that suffered by actress Isis Valverde last week. Edited photographs that showed the actress nude were shared on social media. The artist only realized that the photos were going viral on Thursday (26). She then contacted the Computer Crimes Repression Department of the Rio Civil Police.
At least three modified photos of Isis are circulating on social media – in one of the images, the actress had her bikini digitally removed, showing a fake body in place of hers.
