247 – Senator Bernie Sanders (Democratic Party) warned this Thursday (2) of violence in the West Bank, where, according to him, “the UN reports 170 attacks on settlers in the West Bank and 121 Palestinians have been killed since October 7. Israel must put an end to this violence”, wrote the parliamentarian on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
In Gaza, which is located between Israel, in Asia, and Egypt, in Africa, more than 10,584 buildings have been destroyed since October 7th. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 14 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are not functioning, in addition to two specialized health centers that are also inoperative.
Almost 130 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank by gunfire from Israeli soldiers or settlers after the start of the new conflict, data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health showed. Around 1,900 Palestinians have been detained in the West Bank by Israeli security services, according to the Prisoners’ Club, an association that defends the rights of detained people.
About 86% of the local population, or 3 million people in the West Bank, are Palestinians, United Nations (UN) figures showed in 2021. Gaza has 2.1 million Palestinians. The international entity warned of genocide against Palestinians and highlighted the need for a ceasefire in the Middle East.
On October 7, members of Hamas launched a rocket attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, killing and kidnapping people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food and fuel. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks carrying humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip.
