Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the acquisition of iSIZE, a solutions company specializing in video offerings. The agreement will allow the PlayStation manufacturer to expand the reach of streaming and boost the quality of media content.
Headquartered in London, United Kingdom, iSIZE is a reference in delivering services focused on bitrate saving. With the purchase, the manufacturer is expected to gain experience in “applying machine learning to video processing”.
Regarding Sony’s portfolio, the negotiation with the British company will benefit research and development efforts, as well as video and cloud services.
iSIZE has a team of talented engineers and technical experts who have developed a suite of software solutions to optimize video.
For example, the company has built an AI-based perceptual preprocessing solution that enables conventional third-party encoders to produce higher quality video at a significantly lower bitrate.
As there was a positive response to the implementation of PS5 streaming for PS Plus Premium subscribers this week (via PlayStation LifeStyle), everything indicates that the manufacturer has plans to improve quality for the entertainment industry.
Terms of the transaction between the parties were not disclosed.
