Sony Interactive Entertainment has signed an agreement to acquire iSIZE, a London-based company specializing in deep learning for video delivery.
“iSIZE creates AI-based solutions to deliver bitrate savings and quality improvements for the media and entertainment industry,” Sony Interactive Entertainment Future Technology Group Senior Vice President Ueli Gallizzi said in a statement. “The acquisition provides [à Sony Interactive Entertainment] significant experience in applying machine learning to video processing, which will benefit a range of our R&D efforts, as well as our video and streaming services.”
iSIZE was founded in 2016 and has a team of engineers and technical experts who have developed a suite of video optimization software solutions, such as an AI-based perceptual preprocessing solution that enables conventional third-party encoders to produce video from higher quality at a significantly lower bitrate.
