The brothers Joesley and Wesley Batista, executives of the J&F group, which controls JBS, will be part of President Lula Inácio Lula da Silva’s trip to China. Both signed a plea agreement during the Lava Jato operation.
The Batista brothers make up a delegation of 88 businessmen and agribusiness representatives, who are going to visit the Asian country. All of them were invited Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro. The information was revealed by the newspaper “O Globo”.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the businessmen invited by the Lula government will pay the travel costs on their own and will not travel on the presidential plane.
Pivot of the crisis in the government of then-president Michel Temer, Joesley Batista became nationally known in 2017 for having recorded the politician supposedly agreeing to buy the silence of the impeached deputy and former president of the Chamber of Deputies Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ). Cunha was arrested in the Lava Jato operation.
After the investigations and having revealed a strong corruption scheme and payment of bribes to politicians, Joesley and Wesley were also arrested for Operation Lava-Jato. They signed an award-winning agreement.
Lula’s entourage will also have parliamentarians
President Lula leaves next Friday, the 24th, for Beijing with a delegation of parliamentarians. Among them seven senators and twenty federal deputies, among them the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD) and of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
