[Atenção, esta nota contém spoilers do segundo episódio de The Last of Us]
The second episode of The Last of Us ended in unexpectedly disgusting fashion. That’s because an infected ended up kissing Tess (Anna Torv) moments before she set fire to the clickers that were threatening Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). In an interview with EWthe creators of the adaptation, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmanntold why the end of the character was different compared to the game.
According to the pair, the kiss that ended Tess was conducted in this way to try to “humanize” the zombies in the series. “They don’t need to become violent unless you are trying to spread them further. [a infecção]” said Druckmann, explaining that this was what was perceived to be “beautiful but horrible way with Anna [Torv].
“Craig then cleverly scored: ‘What can we do to further separate our infected from the zombies?’ It’s more than just a bite. There’s something else going on”, recalls Druckmann. “Wish we had that ‘tchan’ right away but we thought of so many different things they could be doing […] And some of them were pretty weird.“.
Based on the eponymous game, the story takes place 20 years after the near extinction of humanity due to Cordyceps fungal infection. That’s when Joel (Pascal) is hired to get Ellie (Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone – but what should be a simple job for him becomes a brutal journey across the United States, where both depend on each other for survival.
Besides Pedro Pascal and Bella ramsey, The Last of Us have in the cast Anna Torv (Fringe), Gabriel Luna (Terminator), Nico Parker (Dumbo), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) and Storm Reid (euphoria).
