Ian Hill explains how he is the only one who never left Judas Priest

Can you imagine working in the same place and doing the same things for over fifty years? This proposal may not be very tempting for some, but seventy-year-old Ian Hill, bassist for Judas Priest, doesn’t complain, and told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an interview how he is the only member who has never left the group.

“I never had a reason to leave,” he said, letting out a small laugh. “I’m perfectly happy with what I do. I helped start the band. It’s something I love very much. When I’m not in Judas Priest, I’m a family guy. I have four kids and a wife. I don’t play after a tour. Maybe when the band actually ends I’ll put together a blues band to play in local bars with my friends, nothing serious,” he concluded.

Playing for thousands of people is just another day at work for Ian, but he talks about a situation that still scares him in public. “I can play in front of 30,000 people at a festival, that doesn’t bother me, but put a microphone in front of me and it’s different. I have difficulty giving a speech at a wedding,” he said, saying that upon entering the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Judas Priest he faced this difficulty, alleviated by the fact that the light was in his face. “I couldn’t see beyond two rows,” he said.

“Invincible Shield”, Judas Priest’s twentieth album, will be released on March 8th.
