Surfer and former BBB member Lucas Chumbo is among the group of athletes specializing in giant waves who are in Rio Grande do Sul to rescue victims of the floods that hit the state. Through social media, Chumbo asked for help in obtaining equipment for the action.
“We need 8 jet skis and 20 radios for communication for our team in Porto Alegre. It will be essential for us to be able to complete the rescues,” she wrote in a post shared on Tuesday night (7). “There is no machine to operate. There’s a lack of machine, there’s a surplus of pilots. We just need machines”, he added.
On the morning of this Wednesday (8), when the group was heading towards a new day of rescues, Chumbo reinforced the request. “I posted a message to everyone saying they needed radios and jet skis. I thank everyone who is able to make themselves available, but we really need machines, without a pilot”, he clarified again.
“It’s for us to drive and get access to places that are inaccessible. Radios for communication are sorely needed. We’ve already lost some, so it will be essential for the next few days”, he continued about the actions of the surfers who have already reported other difficulties in the process of rescuing victims.
“Thank you very much for your help always. We are just here to help those lives in need. We need a jet, without a pilot. Just so we can act more”, he highlighted again. Athletes have shared reports and images of rescues that, to date, are focused on the city of Eldorado do Sul.

The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul updated, also this Wednesday (8), to 100 the number of dead due to the storms that affected 80% of the state. The most recent bulletin also points out that there are other deaths under investigation, while 120 people were also reported missing and around 372 injured.
