21 years since “We’ve Come For You All”, the excellent album that was forgotten by Anthrax

-

New York band Anthrax has been active since the early 1980s and has released great works throughout its respectable career. One of these albums is “We’ve Come For You All”, the ninth studio record by the quintet led by Scott Ian, released on May 6, 2003.

Successor to “Volume 8: The Threat Is Real” (1998), “We’ve Come For You All” is a heavy, modern work (for the time, of course) that flirts with Groove Metal. The album marks the debut of guitarist Rob Caggiano and is the last new work by the quintet recorded by the magnificent vocalist John Bush, who was replaced by Joey Belladonna, whom he himself had replaced in the early 1990s.

The main highlight of “We’ve Come For You All” is the wonderful “Safe Home”, a heavy ballad that had the potential to be played even on radio stations, since at the time of its release, heavier rhythms had more space in the media. Without a shadow of a doubt, “Safe Home” is one of the most brilliant moments of Anthrax’s entire career.

In addition to “Safe Home”, other songs from “We’ve Come For You All” that deserve to be highlighted are the very violent “What Doesn’t Die”, “Refuse To Be Denied”, “Any Place But Here”, the frantic ” Nobody Knows Anything”, the brutal “Black Dahlia” and the fun “Cadillac Rock Box”.

“We’ve Come For You All” doesn’t resemble any other Anthrax work and its sound is different from the Thrash/Speed presented on the group’s first albums. The bet on a heavier and more current sound yielded great songs, however, in the end, the album, which turns 21 in 2024, ended up being forgotten by Anthrax themselves.

Although it’s a great play, “We’ve Come For You All” is not available on digital platforms. To listen to the album, you must purchase a physical copy, or access unofficial links on YouTube. There is also a third option, which starts with “down” and ends with the name of a controversial album released by Metallica in the 1990s.

As if its absence on digital platforms wasn’t enough, “We’ve Come For You All” has also been out of Anthrax shows for almost 15 years. The last time songs from the album appeared at a band show was on March 1, 2010. On that date, Anthrax performed in Perth (Australia) and played “Safe Home” and “What Doesn’t Die”.

The absence of songs from “We’ve Come For You All” in Anthrax shows MAY be explained by the change of vocalists, as Joey Belladonna does not usually sing tracks recorded by John Bush.

“We’ve Come For You All” may have been left aside by Anthrax, however, it will never be forgotten by a true fan of the band.
