Singer Madonna performed last Saturday (4) in Rio, on Copacabana beach, and broke several records. The first of these was the audience which, according to Riotur, was 1.6 million people: the biggest for the singer and the fifth biggest in the world.

In addition to breaking its own record in terms of attendance, Madonna’s show exceeded all expectations of the Rio authorities in terms of financial return for Rio and safety during the show.

According to data released by Rio authorities, Madonna’s show brought a financial return to Rio in excess of R$300 million. The City Hall and the state government were working with a return of up to R$300 million, in other words, it was exceeded.

  • The show’s audience, which was estimated at 1.5 million people, surpassed the 1.6 million mark.
  • The hotel chain had 96% occupancy, a number similar to holidays such as New Year’s Eve and Carnival.
  • According to the Rio Military Police, only 38 people were taken to Copacabana police stations.
  • Only four arrest warrants were served and one teenager was apprehended.
  • A man was arrested, identified by the facial recognition system set up in the region.
  • Around 160 sharp objects were seized at the search and blocking points.
  • 213 incidents were recorded, with 7 arrested and 7 juvenile offenders apprehended.

As can be seen, in addition to the above-expected economic return, the organization of Madonna’s show on Copacabana beach was also excellent and reaffirms the importance of major cultural events for economic movement at a local and national level.

Madonna inspires new dress code for the São Paulo LGBT Parade that will upset Bolsonarists

Madonna’s historic show on Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro, continues to be a topic of public debate almost 48 hours after its end. Throughout this Monday (6) and last Sunday, social networks were taken over by a series of clashes between progressive sectors and Bolsonarists in dispute over the narrative surrounding the event. One of these points in dispute is the singer’s use of the yellow and green t-shirt of the Brazilian team, which in recent years has been under the monopoly of the extreme right.

And it was precisely with this in mind that the organization of the São Paulo LGBTQIAP+ Parade called for the 28th edition of the march, suggesting a ‘dress code’ which will upset Bolsonarists. On its Instagram account, the non-governmental organization that promotes the event suggested that those present dress in national colors and take with them, as an addition to their look, the famous flag with the colors of the rainbow.

“Madonna and Pabllo Vittar gave new meaning to the use of the Brazilian flag in the historic show held last weekend on the sands of Copacabana. The green-yellow flag had been appropriated by the most regressive wing of society, the one that uses love for the country as a disguise to propagate hatred. Nefarious leaders have sought to reverse the civil rights won by the LGBT+ community”the organizers wrote.

The motto of the 28th São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade focuses precisely on this “retrograde wing” and its parliamentary representation, which has spared no effort in limiting and reducing the rights achieved by the LGBTQIAP+ community. “Enough of negligence and legislative setbacks” is the phrase that will guide the political action of the largest LGBT parade in the world, which takes place on June 2nd.

“Parada SP calls on the entire population to appear on Avenida Paulista on June 2nd, at the 28th São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade, dressed in the colors green and yellow, and holding Brazilian and rainbow flags, to celebrate the resumption of our symbols and remember that ‘Enough of Negligence and Setbacks in the Legislature’finalizes the organization.
