Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hit theaters exactly one year ago, on September 3, 2021, the movie became a huge hit and changed the actor’s life. Simu Liuwhich reveals that this also had its price:
‘Exactly 1 year ago, this movie came and changed my life. And it’s been a great journey… but after some time to reflect, I know that this life also comes at a great price.
I was catapulted into the stratosphere. I didn’t have many things and I wasn’t prepared to deal with the mental ramifications of a public life. I felt like I was navigating a learning curve, crushing my interviews, but I was also neglecting the time I needed to spend prioritizing my mental health.
I’ve shot 4 movies since then, I’m on my 5th. I barely had time to breathe because I’m afraid of running out of gas. I was so obsessed with the idea of taking the space and representing my community that I worked until I was exhausted. And even though I’m so proud of my achievements and ethics, I know I need to change.
So today, on the anniversary of Shang-Chi’s release, I’m really excited because I’m in therapy and prioritizing my mental health. I’m healing well and becoming something greater than a hero. I’m on my way to becoming a good man.
(But stay tuned, because I love doing it and I will for years and years to come)
