With 6 reviews published to date, the post-apocalyptic thriller ‘Breathe‘, starring Milla Jovovich (‘Resident Evil’), opened with bitter 17% critics approval on Rotten Tomatoes.

The general consensus criticizes the film for offering a shallow, clichéd and drawn-out dystopian plot – losing the pace and interest of viewers throughout its narrative.

We have separated excerpts from the main criticisms:

“The biggest negative point of this film is the bad script. It’s easy to accept that the Earth is still and lifeless. It’s even easy to forgive all the great technology that Darius managed to create. But why does the planet seem to have gone through a world war?” (AIPT)

“Trying to portray a harrowing dystopian scenario, this slow-paced thriller leaves its capable and committed cast gasping for air.” (Cinemalogue)

“In the end, ‘Breathe’ is just an empty film. It’s as if there’s a vacuum where a film should be, sucking all the air out of the room until there’s nothing left.” (Collider)

“This is a boring film, with non-existent suspense that functions only as a shallow study of humanity and survival.” (Blu-ray.com)

“Ultimately, ‘Breathe’ is an uneven film. Some parts are very captivating, while others are shallow or underdeveloped.” (Aisle Seat)

Don’t forget to watch:

“If viewers can stomach the dragging start, ‘Breathe’ offers plenty of dramatic payoff in its conclusion.” (Assignment)
