New feature film arrives accompanied by a series, both exclusively on the Peacock streaming service.
Megamind is, without a doubt, an animated film that marked many people’s childhoods. Released in 2010, the film was a particular success here in Brazil and you must have watched the broadcast on television more than once.
Now, after 14 years, the first trailer for the sequel was released this Thursday (01), but it looks like it won’t be as the public expected. Entitled Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicatethe feature film is a project by the Peacock streaming service in partnership with Dreamworks.
In the plot, which will take place shortly after the events of the original work, Megamind wants to prove to everyone that he has now become a true hero. To support his argument, he faces a group of villains called the “Syndicate of Doom”.
In addition to the sequel, which will bring back characters such as reporter Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey) and her faithful friend, the Servant (David Cross), the story of the blue villain will also get a series. Megamind Rules! was defined as a complement and should contain eight episodes that will introduce new elements and characters that can be seen in the recently released trailer.
Despite the euphoria of some at being able to watch another Megamind adventure, many people were dissatisfied with the quality of the animation. As it is not a large production, the difference in relation to the first version is very clear.
To top it off, the entire original voice cast was changed, so the protagonist no longer has the voice of actor and comedian Will Ferrell, being replaced by Keith Ferguson, who has already worked on Inside Out, Minions and Monsters University.
On social media, fans, who described Megamind as “the film of my childhood”, they expressed their dissatisfaction when checking out the trailer for the sequel. One of the X users commented: “When I said I wanted a Megamind 2, that’s not what I was talking about.”
With the premiere of both scheduled for March 1st on the platform, it has not yet been confirmed whether there will be a theatrical release and, as Peacock is not available in Brazil, we do not know what the release will be like here.
