The protector (2014) and The Protector 2 (2018) together grossed almost US$385 million worldwide, bringing a great return for Sony Pictures given the modest investment. The new sequel, which reached the top of the box office in the USA, debuted with US$34.5 million and has already grossed more than US$90 million worldwide — the film had the best opening of the franchise in Brazil.
