After a lower-than-expected opening, The Marvels continues to deliver very negative results for Marvel Studios. According to data from Box Office Mojo, the sequence of Captain Marvel (2019) fell to third place in the US box office rankings — while entering just its second week in theaters.

- The drop in box office The Marvels is considered the greatest in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU);
- Last weekend, the film grossed just US$10.2 million, totaling US$65 million at the global box office;
- The film lost space to The Hunger Games: Song of Birds and Snakeswhich debuted first with $44 million, and Trolls 3 – Together Againin second place with US$30.6 million.

The descent of The Marvels represents, in numbers, a drop of almost 80% since the previous weekend, the largest ever recorded — the previous record was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), with 69%. Compared to the launch day, November 9th, the decline was even more intense.
With an investment of US$200 million (R$983 million), the film opened with US$47 million in its first weekend — a relatively low amount for productions with a Marvel label. The amount raised already classified the sequel as the studio’s worst debut in years.
For comparison purposes, Captain Marvel, from 2019, grossed US$63.3 million in its debut, with a global total of US$110.3 million. Before The Marvelsthe worst box offices were The incredible Hulkfrom 2008, with U$S 55.4 million, and Ant Manin 2015, with US$57.2 million.
Marvels leads in Brazil, but not enough to save the film
According to data from Comscore, The Marvels achieved leadership in Brazil after its launch, but with only R$9 million in revenue — and while it still didn’t have the new Hunger Games in the dispute. The company should update the national ranking soon.
