The MCU Book: The Reign of Marvel Studios chronicles the rise of Hollywood’s most powerful studio.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been around for 15 years, and in over a decade, there are only two people Kevin Feige doesn’t want to work with again. At least that’s what it says MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studiosthe unauthorized book chronicling the rise to power of Hollywood’s most powerful studio today.
According to Dexerto.com, the book written by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzalez and Gavin Edwards states: “If the Inhumans could be rehabilitated, seemingly everyone in MCU history would be on Feige’s call list except Edward Norton, the the franchise’s first Bruce Banner, and Joss Whedon, whose Agents of SHIELD characters remain in limbo.
Norton played Bruce Banner/Hulk in The Incredible Hulk, but was replaced by Mark Ruffalo in The Avengers. “We have made the decision not to bring back Ed Norton to play the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers,” Feige said at the time of the actor’s farewell.
“Our decision was not based on monetary factors, but on the need for an actor who embodied the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers requires actors who thrive working as part of a group, as evidenced by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and the rest of our talented cast,” he added.
According to the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, the reason Norton didn’t continue as Bruce Banner was because the actor wanted “a longer, slower movie” influenced by Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. Marvel Studios, on the other hand, was looking for “a shorter adventure film”.
THE MCU TIMELINE
As for Whedon, the director of Avengers and its sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, he oversaw the series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. According to the book, Feige was dissatisfied with the way Whedon interfered in the MCU’s fiction. Specifically, with the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. On the other hand, the filmmaker was accused of abusive behavior in projects such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the remakes of Justice League.
As for how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fits into the MCU, Feige confirmed that the non-Disney+ Marvel series is “canon” but is set in a different timeline in the multiverse.
15 years later, the MCU is still releasing films and series on Disney+. Following the arrival of season 2 of Loki on the streaming platform, The Marvels hits theaters on November 9th. The Captain Marvel sequel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau/Photon. The film is directed by Nia Dacosta.
