The first weekend in September brought together political opponents around a common agenda: the preservation of the environment. On the morning of this Sunday (4/9), five candidates for the Government of the Federal District participated in the Act in Defense of the Waters of the DF, at the Tamanduá Rural Nucleus, in Paranoá.

Keka Bagno (PSol), Leandro Grass (PV), Lucas Salles (DC), Renan Arruda (PCO) and Robson da Silva (PSTU) sat at the same table to discuss proposals on spring preservation, combating illegal occupation and land regularization. At the end of the meeting, they signed the Manifesto for the Preservation of Waters and the Future of the Federal District and were baptized with the waters of Serrinha, Lago Oeste and Águas Emendadas.

The event was organized by the Water Defense Forum, formed by 58 environmental organizations, residents’ associations, civil society organizations, rural producers, research and teaching institutions, among others. Also present were names seeking a seat in the Legislature, such as Raissa Rossiter (PSB), candidate for district deputy, and Erika Kokay (PT), who is trying to get reelected to the Chamber of Deputies.

Meeting

The forum was born from the first meeting between the organization Preserva Serrinha, the Association of Residents of Lago Norte and of Producers of Lago Oeste and Águas Emendadas.

The signed manifesto proposes a new pact between State and society. “It is urgent that we take incisive actions for the protection of springs and bodies of water; decisions on public investment in water infrastructure, instead of urban and road expansion works that threaten springs and aquifer recharge areas; the work to preserve the quality of drinking water through improvements in the systems of supply, reuse and treatment of water; preservation, conservation and restoration of the cerrado in the urgent regularization of water producing areas and combating irregular subdivision and land grabbing”, states the text.

The document continues: “There are several areas in the Federal District with rural characteristics inserted in urban areas, producing water and organic food, which need to be preserved and cared for, so that the future of the city is not compromised. rural, peri-urban and urban areas is necessary to consolidate its vocation for water production.”
