On the occasion of the commemorations of the Bicentennial of the Proclamation of the Independence of Brazil, the Armed forcestogether with the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and with the Municipalities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, they will promote a Civic-Military Tribute to the Bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil. As is known, after the recommendation of Dona Leopoldina, Emperor Dom Pedro I declared our independence on September 7th. The event will consist of a series of commemorative activities starting on the september 6theve of the birth date of our country.

In the city of Rio de Janeiro, the festivities will begin on the 6th with a civic-military parade on Avenida Duque de Caxias, in Vila Militar, an opportunity in which the public will be able to watch “demonstrations of martiality and operationality of the troop”.

The 7th will be marked by artillery salutes, which will be carried out by the 31st Field Artillery Group, at Fort Copacabana, every hour from 8:00 am. Throughout the morning of Fatherland Day, there will be performances by Army bands in the neighborhoods of Flamengo, Lagoa, Madureira, Méier, São Cristóvão, Sulacap and Urca. There will also be a Naval Parade with the participation of ships from the Brazil’s navy and from friendly countries, starting at 9 am, departing from the waters bordering Recreio dos Bandeirantes, towards Guanabara Bay.

Starting at 1:00 pm, the long-awaited ceremony to commemorate the 200 years of Brazilian Independence will take place on Avenida Atlântica, at the height of Avenida Rainha Elizabeth, in Copacabana. The ceremony will feature an air show by the Esquadrilha CEU and performances by music bands from the Marine Corps, the 1st Guards Battalion, the Brazilian Air Force and the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Continuous act, the Parachute Infantry Brigade free jump team, “the comets”, reinforced by members of the “Equipe Falcão”, from the Brazilian Air Force, will perform a jumping demonstration with landing on Copacabana beach. Subsequently, the Smoke Squadron will make a presentation in the skies of the little princess of the sea.

At 4:00 pm, approximately the time of the Proclamation of Independence, the fleet of the Brazilian Squadron and the Artillery stationed at the Copacabana Fort will execute 21-gun salutes in honor of the Bicentennial of Brazil’s Independence.

Also on the 7th of September, as part of the Eastern Military Command (CML), civic-military parades will be held in the host cities of the barracks in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. In Niterói, the civic-military parade will begin at 9 am, on Avenida Amaral Peixoto. The CML will also send representations of its Parachutist and Mountain troops to the civic-military parade in the city of São Paulo, cradle of Brazil’s Independence.

Strengthening even more the ties of integration of the armed forces with the carioca society, on the 8th and 9th of September, the Copacabana Fort it will be open to free visitation of its centenary walls, as well as the historical museum that they house.

As soon as the coordination related to traffic and other measures necessary for the execution of the events are agreed between the competent bodies of the Armed Forces, the State of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the City Halls of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, a supplementary note will be published to wide dissemination and clarification to the public. All activities are open to the press and the means of accreditation will be informed in due course.
