After a period of drought that limited soybean production to 9.16 million tons in the 2021/22 season, the 2022/23 summer crop should be 124.4% higher.

According to an estimate released this morning by Emater RS/Ascar, during the 45th edition of Expointer, in Esteio (RS), 2022/23 soybean production could reach 20.56 million tons.

According to data obtained between August 1 and 19, based on a survey carried out in 497 municipalities in the state, soybean productivity per area also tends to surpass the previous year and to be 112.7% higher in 2022/23, with 3,131 thousand kg per area. hectare.

The area planted with the oilseed is estimated at 6.569 million hectares (+2.8% compared to 2021/22).
According to Emater’s technical director, Alencar Rugeri, it is possible to verify a change in the “soybean path” in the state.

“Soybean is advancing in the southern half of Rio Grande do Sul. This is an important issue, but one that also concerns us, because in this region there is a need for more professional management,” she said.

In Rugeri’s assessment, despite the high cost of inputs, the expectation is that the oilseed will reach the forecasts, especially with a favorable climate perspective.

The meteorologist Flavio Varoni, from the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of Rio Grande do Sul, evaluated, during the presentation of the Emater results, that the month of August is “going well” from the climatic point of view. “We are having a very typical and favorable winter. The condition is good for us to work this year,” he said.

Varoni highlighted that La Niña tends to act more expressively on the cultures of Rio Grande do Sul during the spring, especially in October.
