Rock in Rio should inject around US$ 158.5 million into the city’s economy;
Values refer to the average daily expenses per person with accommodation, food, transport and tours in the city;
The official value will be announced after the end of the event.
Data collected by the Rio Convention & Visitors Bureau show that Rock in Rio 2022 should inject around US$ 158.5 million, equivalent to R$ 819.3 million, at current prices, into the city’s economy. Of this total, US$ 7.9 million, about R$ 40.8 million, will be transferred to Taxes on Services (ISS) for the municipality.
According to the institution, the values refer only to the impact on the tourism sector, that is, average daily expenses with accommodation, food, transport and tours.
However, that number could be much higher. According to the City Hall, a turnover of R$ 1.7 billion is expected. The organization of the event estimates around R$ 2.5 billion. The official number will be announced after the event ends.
From the 2nd to the 11th of this month, the festival period, around 700 thousand people are expected, with 360 thousand from outside Rio de Janeiro. According to HotéisRio, an organization for the hotel sector, around 10,000 are foreigners from 31 countries.
“Rock in Rio has already established itself as one of the biggest festivals in the world and has become, along with New Year’s Eve and Carnival, one of the main events in Rio de Janeiro. It generates a positive impact for the city as a whole. we constantly work to capture new events for the city, in order to move tourism throughout the year”, says the executive director of the Rio Convention & Visitors Bureau, Roberta Werner.
About the average number of rooms booked for the Rock in Rio period, HotelsRio reported that during the first week of the festival the number of occupied accommodations is already 77.74%, while in the second week the amount will be 83.61%.
