THE West Zone of Rio will win a Natural Park to call their own. As of this Saturday, (03/09), works will begin for the construction of the Realengo Park. The first green space in the region will have more than 80 thousand m², with heat islands and flooding with the creation of gardens with aquatic plants in artificial lakes.
The mayor of Rio Eduardo Paes, was present at the beginning of the works on the Park and stated that the population of the West Zone does not have this leisure option. “This space should have an important impact on the quality of life in one of the most densely populated regions of Rio, as happened when Parque Madureira was opened”, concludes Paes.
According to the Municipality, the construction of Parque Realengo is one of the goals of the Strategic Plan of the City of Rio until 2024 and will be invested approx. BRL 72 million.
The project promises to keep the Atlantic forest, which has more than 7,200 square meters and planting more specimens. The promise is that there will also be an area of 3,500 meters with eight grills, sports courts, basketball, skate park and climbing wall. The construction of a mini-market with nine stores is also planned, as well as a vegetable garden and an orchard.
The recreation area will occupy part of the land of an Army cartridge factory that has been deactivated for more than four decades. The factory closed after the Union created the Brazilian War Material (Imbel), which began to centralize production for the Armed Forces.
