Mato Grosso do Sul has 42 confirmed cases of Monkeypox disease, popularly known as monkeypox. Caused by a virus, currently 26 people are in isolation due to active illness. Another 20 have already healed.

Epidemiological bulletin released this Saturday (03) by the state health department, shows that of the active cases, 21 are in Campo Grande, two in Dourados, one in Costa Rica, one in Ponta Porã and one in Três Lagoas.

Another 59 cases are suspected and are in the confirmation phase. The exams are carried out by Fiocruz in Rio de Janeiro, so there is a delay in confirming. According to the Secretary of State for Health, Flávio Britto, most of the time when the test confirms the disease, the patient is already cured.

According to him, the disease lasts between two and four weeks, with “beginning, middle and end”, and patients are cured with isolation, medication and without the need for hospitalization. There are no confirmed deaths from the disease in the state so far.

Profile of confirmed cases

More than 60% of confirmed cases of Monkeypox in the state are in people between the ages of 20 and 39. Only 6.5% of confirmed cases are women, and the vast majority, or 93.5%, are men.

According to the SES epidemiological bulletin, in 52.2% of confirmed cases, the probable form of infection is through sexual intercourse. In 28.3% the form of contagion is unknown.

Infected patients are monitored by the call center service. The service operates daily, from 7 am to 7 pm, by number 67 2020-2170.
