With a focus on planning to ease the queues of elective surgeries in Tocantins, the State Department of Health (SES-TO) closed the month of August with a balance of 793 elective surgeries performed. In the last ten months, Tocantins has already held 7,036 electives.
In 2022, 5,861 elective surgeries were performed, a number higher than the years of 2020 and 2021 combined (2,626 and 2,729 respectively) and more than the entire year of 2019, when the State had registered the highest number of electives (5,844). “We are working to reduce the waiting time for elective surgeries in Tocantins. The numbers show an expressive growth in surgeries, the result of the commitment of the technical and multidisciplinary teams in the state hospitals, which are adapting to offer the best care to the population, generating quality of life for many people who have been waiting for years for a procedure”, he emphasized. the Secretary of State for Health, Afonso Piva.
“It is worth noting that when we took over the secretariat, we had a total of 7,000 repressed electives, part of them due to the determination of the Ministry of Health, which guided the suspension of this type of procedure, due to the pandemic by Covid-19. Fortunately, the rates of contamination by the new coronavirus have dropped and we were able to print a productivity routine in our surgical centers “, added the secretary.
Lucélia da Silva Costa was one of the thousands of patients seen in 2022. She had been waiting for bariatric surgery since 2007 and was treated at the Regional Hospital of Araguaína (HRA). “I am grateful to God and very happy. The services are very good. From the outpatient clinic to the day of my surgery. I waited for this many years and now it is following my treatment in search of a better life every day”, she said.
In addition to the routine of the surgical centers that resulted in the new brand, on August 27, orthopedic surgeries began, through the accreditation of companies, carried out by SES-TO, which will serve 933 patients. Allied to this, the Ministry should disclose in the coming days, new accreditation to hire companies specialized in cardiology, to carry out 200 elective procedures.
