The Justice sentenced Pedro Paulo Ribeiro Carvalho to 44 years in prison for participating in two murders and two attempted murders that took place in 2008 in araguaine, in the north of the state. An ambush was set up to kill Antônio Martins Almeida and in addition to this crime, one of the victim’s children was also murdered.
Pedro Paulo and Antônio, who worked as an usher, were identified as partners in a scheme to steal trucks and tamper with vehicles. The victim was charging payment for services done in the scheme.
According to the State Public Ministry (MPE), with the help of Dalmo Justino Pinto, who was also convicted of the crimes previously, Pedro Paulo lured the victim to a stretch of the TO-222 in March 2008, saying he would pay the debt. Antônio went to the indicated place, but he took two small children and a colleague of the children.
When they arrived, the victims were attacked by the duo and Antônio was beaten to death. One of his sons was shot and did not survive his injuries. The other son and friend were also injured but survived the assassination attempt.
The MPE’s thesis pointed out that Pedro Paulo and his partner committed the crimes using cruel means and wanted to ensure that the crimes of truck theft would not be reported by Antônio, who wanted to leave the gang.
The trial took place on Thursday (1) in Araguaína. The Court accepted the MPE’s theses and, in all, the defendant was sentenced to 44 years, four months and fourteen days in prison. The sentence must be served initially in a closed regime.
