MPPI promotes extrajudicial hearing on the Teresina Zoobotanical Biopark

The Public Ministry of Piauí, through the 24th Public Prosecutor’s Office of Teresina, headed by the prosecutor Carmelina Moura, with the help of the Operational Support Center for the Defense of the Environment (CAOMA), held yesterday, August 31, , extrajudicial hearing to deal with the revitalization and preservation of the Zoobotanical Biopark, located in the capital of Piauí.

The audience aimed to address structural improvements in the park, animal protection, flora and the area of ​​environmental preservation. The Bioparque Consortium complied with the permanence of the Environmental Police Battalion, including new installations; the promotion of cleaning and organization of the area and the realization of improvements for the animals. During the hearing, it was indicated that the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Secretary of State for the Environment and Water Resources of Piauí (SEMAR) and the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) is under discussion for the full and continuous operation of the Animal Triage Center (CETAS).

During the hearing, the need for continuous joint action by the inspection bodies in the Biopark was addressed, work to be carried out by the State and Municipal Environment Departments together with the BioParque Consortium and the Superintendence of Partnerships and Concessions (Suparc). The municipal environmental guard will have support from CETAS regarding the forwarding of seized and rescued animals. It was also decided to collect information from the company Águas de Teresina about the sanitary sewage network in the park area.

The promoter Carmelina Moura highlighted the constant performance in the monitoring and inspection of actions and projects for the revitalization and environmental preservation of the Zoobotanical space.

The State Secretary for the Environment, Daniel Marçal, highlighted that SEMAR has been involved in the inspection of the Biopark, in the recovery of the lagoon, in supporting the installations of the Environmental Battalion and in the inspection of the projects and management plan.

Biopark representatives presented the emergency plan, the inspection report and the structural actions already carried out to improve the area and preserve the fauna and flora.

Representatives from SEMAM and SEMAR, from the Consórcio Bioparque Zoobotánico, Empresa Kobus, Suparc and CAOMA participated in the meeting.
