Band revolts against Alexandre de Moraes and defends bolsonaristas

Last Tuesday (30), in Jornal da Band, Band published an editorial criticizing the minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) and president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), Alexandre de Moraes. In the text read by anchor Eduardo Oinegue, the communication group compares Moraes to a “justiceiro” for having authorized an action by the PF (Federal Police) against a group of Bolsonarista businessmen who exchanged messages in which they defend that a “coup” would be better than than the return of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to the Presidency of the Republic.

In the opinion of Grupo Bandeirantes, Brazil is “shocked” by the police action and the justifications do not support the request for that operation. “Where is the evidence? Because exchanging messages, just opinions without action, even if they are against democracy or even in defense of a coup, an idea that we fight and abhor, do not constitute crimes. They are far from justifying that police operation”, claimed the São Paulo broadcaster during its main newscast.

The network led by Johnny Saad also linked the decision to investigate the businessmen who supported President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to the way in which Operation Lava Jato (2014-2021) worked: “We are facing yet another madness of our judiciary, as has been happening from Lava Jato. Without clear and conclusive evidence, Alexandre de Moraes plays in this episode more the role of a ruler outside the law and the Constitution than a minister who should watch over that same law, that same Constitution”.

Check out the editorial of Grupo Bandeirantes in full:

“Brazil, still shocked by the Federal Police’s action in the home and office of 8 businessmen, expected Minister Alexandre de Moraes to present the justification for having authorized this operation. And in fact, the secrecy of the investigations has just been removed. This on the 7th day after the police action. But what appeared does not convince.

And the question remains: where is the evidence? Because exchanging messages, just opinions without action, even if they are against democracy or even in defense of a coup, an idea that we fight and abhor, do not constitute crimes. They are far from substantiating that police operation.

Signs are growing that we are facing yet another madness of our judiciary, as has happened since Lava Jato. Without clear and conclusive evidence, Alexandre de Moraes plays in this episode more the role of a ruler outside the law and the Constitution than a minister who should watch over that same law, that same Constitution.

Due to the respect we have for the institution of the Federal Supreme Court, we want to believe that there may still be convincing evidence, but the expectation is reduced. Time passes and the demand gets more intense and so does the indignation.

Or does this material really not exist and the country will have to live with a Supreme Court minister who has in fact become the mastermind of illegal operations? A righteous minister.

This is the opinion of Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicação”
