Not long now. The Aracaju 2022 Youth Games start this Friday, the 2nd, as the biggest multi-sport event for Brazilian youth athletes. In total, this year’s edition will receive in the capital of Sergipe more than 4,100 athletes aged up to 17 years and this Thursday, the 1st, 25 delegations arrived in the Sergipe capital for the competition.
And on arrival a lot was impressed. Marcio Santana, high jump and long jump athlete from Pernambuco, was euphoric with the structure set up. “We’ve just arrived, we haven’t seen everything yet, but I’m already impressed. And very excited, feeling famous!” he joked.
Marcio was grateful for having arrived in Sergipe. Because of the pandemic, this is a dream that took a while to happen. “It’s been amazing. When I entered athletics in 2019 I had no idea. I really didn’t imagine that sport could take me down so many paths, open so many doors. It’s my first and last edition of these Games, right? So I’m really excited and I hope to get out of here with a medal. I don’t know which one I’ll get, but I’ll try my best”, he promised.
Ana Vitória Almeida, also 17 years old, and a student at José Domingos Fraga College, in Sorriso, Mato Grosso, understands the joy of Marcio from Pernambuco. She was present at the 2019 Games. “I love the Community Center, the games between everyone. It’s very different from a tournament in your under-18 sport, for example. Here you meet people from other places, athletes from other modalities. It’s wonderful”, Ana vibrated.
At the time a 250-meter athlete and now dedicated to the 200 and 400 meters, Ana Vitória expects more in 2022. “The first time I participated was not that great (laughs). But I think now I have a chance. Just keep your mind in place. And run a lot!”, projected the young woman.
In all, 1,856 schools will be represented from the 26 states of the federation plus the Federal District. Considering referees, deletion officials and work team, the event will bring together more than 6,000 people during 15 days of competition. Remembering that one of the news of the Aracaju 2022 Youth Games is the live broadcast by the Olympic Channel of Brazil.
