The 18th Festival of Theater for Children of Pernambuco is back on Saturday (3), to fulfill the program at Parque Santana, in the neighborhood of the same name, in the North Zone of Recife. The event, which brings together theater, magic, mamulengo, artistic makeup and music, was initially scheduled for the month of July, but had to be postponed because of the rains.
All activities are free and take place between 2pm and 6pm.
Actress Nelma Barros opens the program with a demonstration of artistic makeup. Then there is a workshop for making dedoches, the finger puppets. The minister is director and actor Sebastião Simão, from Companhia Máscara de Teatro.
At 3 pm, Grupo Água de Cacimba presents “A Flor do Mamulengo”, a puppet show that reflects on life and work in the countryside. The plot enacts the family routine of the cowboy Benedito, the farmer Joaninha and Dona Prazeres, a midwife who comes to help the couple’s child to be born. The character is a tribute to Maria dos Prazeres de Souza, traditional midwife and obstetric nurse, living heritage of the state of Pernambuco.
Then, at 15:30, more puppet theater with “The Princess and the Dragon”, with a staging inspired by medieval fables and knights with shield and sword, fire-breathing dragons, helpless princesses and magical bagpipes. It is a fable told by 11 articulated glove and stick puppets.
At 4:30 pm, it’s time for the musical “Os 3 Super Porquinhos”, by the company Roberto Costa Produções, from Paulista. In this adaptation, Dona Porca decides to give each of her children a dowry to build their own houses. After all, they came of age. So begins the story of the little pigs, based on the original tale, but with many surprises for the kids.
Closing the program, at 5:40 pm, the magician Ryan Rodrigues presents the show “Magia para Todos”, which promises to arouse the curiosity and imagination of children through the art of illusionism.
