The family of Saulo Romaens Silva Oliveira, 34, has been trying to bring the body of the miner from Argentina to Brazil for almost two months. The medical student died in as a result of a massive heart attack, on July 16, and since his death, the neighboring country has postponed the release of the body. The family’s expenses to solve the problem already exceed R$50,000. According to Saulo’s family, the Argentine government itself has already released the body to be cremated or buried in the country, but does not authorize the transfer, without any plausible justification. “We are stuck on the issue of exams, which, according to them, are essential for the body to be released”, explains Erika Liertany Oliveira Gonalves, 37, Saulo’s sister.

Born in Felixlndia, a municipality in the Central Region of Minas, the student had lived for about five years in La Plata, in the province of Buenos Aires. In mid-August, Erika went to Argentina to try to expedite the release of the body, which would take place until July 21, but was postponed until about five days later.

“I stayed in Argentina for 15 days and nothing. Now they claimed that a new (histopathological) exam needs to be done”, he says.

Faced with the impasse, the family finds itself in a situation of impotence and demands solutions from the authorities. “It’s not because he died, that he no longer has rights. For them it’s just a case, for us my brother. It’s a son”, laments Erika.

The family also alleges that the Argentine government denied access to Saulo’s autopsy results. “It’s the worst news I’ve ever had in my life. It’s a great anguish”, adds Saulo’s mother, Delvania Maria Silva Oliveira, 62.
