The Cáritas network, through the Orinoco: Águas que Across Fronteiras project, together with partner institutions, is holding this Friday (2), in Boa Vista, a health day with free medical care for the migrant and refugee population who live on the streets or in social vulnerability.

The action, called “Health Journey for Migrants and Refugees”, will take place at Caritas headquarters in Roraima, located at Avenida Nossa Senhora da Consolata, nº 1526, in the Center of Boa Vista, from 8 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 5 pm.

In addition to medical care, there will be an offer of vaccination against Covid-19, printing of the second copy of the SUS Card, informative activities on health topics, in addition to recreational activities for children.

The action, called the “Health Journey for Migrants and Refugees”, is a response by Cáritas to the violation of the right to health for the migrant public in a street situation or social vulnerability, diagnosed by the Protection sector of the Orinoco project.

The service on the day of the journey will be for a pre-scheduled audience, based on mapping carried out by Cáritas agents in spontaneous occupations in Boa Vista, as well as cases referred by partner institutions that also work in the care of migrants and refugees in situations of vulnerability. Social.

The event is an action of Cáritas Brasileira and Cáritas Diocesana de Roraima, in partnership with the Europana project, Pastoral Care of Migrants (SPM), Pirilampos Institute, UN Migration, International Federation of Medical Student Associations of Brazil (IFMSA) and State of Roraima (UERR) and National Service for Commercial Learning (Senac).

Orinoco: Waters that Cross Borders is a project by Cáritas Brasileira that works with the Venezuelan migrant and refugee population in the North and Northeast of the country. Currently, the initiative is in its third phase and covers five Brazilian states: Acre, Pará, Piauí, Rondônia and Roraima.

The new stage, started in October 2021, develops WASH actions, linked to the prevention against Covid-19, and includes the Protection sector, with actions aimed at migratory regulation, combating gender violence and others associated with the theme, providing the most vulnerable have fair and equitable access to resources and opportunities. The initiative is supported by the US Office of Population, Refuge and Migration.
