The body of a man was found near a place where electrical wiring was stolen, on Wednesday night (31), in Parelhas, Seridó potiguar.

According to the Military Police, the man was found lifeless by technicians from the company Neoenergia Cosern, an energy supplier, who went to the site after an interruption in service in part of the municipality.

The case was registered around 11:30 pm on Rua Dr. Mauro Duarte, near the IFRN campus in the city. The victim was identified as Otomário Joane Dantas, 41 years old.

According to the Military Police, the suspicion is that the man would have tried to steal cables from the electrical network and suffered an electrical discharge. The Technical-Scientific Institute of Expertise (Itep), however, has not yet determined the cause of the man’s death.

In a statement, Cosern said its team found the body after the power supply was interrupted.

“While going to the site, the team detected a theft of medium voltage cables in an extension of approximately 500 meters and, when traveling through the network, a body was found on the ground, which was immediately reported to the Military Police”, says the statement.

“Neoenergia Cosern reinforces that the theft of cables from the network causes risks to life and safety and advises that the population always keep their distance from the electrical network”, highlighted the company.
