On Thursday morning, the Federal Police began an operation against a group suspected of favoring and overbilling in the hiring of a work cooperative by the Municipal Health Department of Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense. The action has the support of the Comptroller General of the Union.
According to investigations, which began in January, the cooperative belongs to an organization accused of embezzling public money. According to the PF, in just over two years, contracts under suspicion and amendments exceeded R$ 563 million.
In the action, about 130 federal police officers and CGU employees fulfill 27 search and seizure warrants in Caxias and at addresses in the cities of Mesquita and Nova Iguaçu, also in the Baixada; Maricá and Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region. Agents also took to the streets in Angra dos Reis, on the state’s Costa Verde, and in the state capital.
Among the targets are businessmen, financial operators, “oranges” and likely leaders of the criminal scheme.
The search and seizure warrants were issued by the Sixth Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro.
