Delegation from Mato Grosso embarks to play School Games in Sergipe

A delegation made up of 60 people left for Aracaju on Wednesday afternoon, where they will represent Mato Grosso from September 2nd to 15th at the National School Games. Of the group, 56 are athletes from 15 to 17 years old who will compete in individual sports. They are athletics, swimming, table tennis, badtmiton and beach volleyball.

State Secretary for Sports, Jefférson Carvalho

The trip of the delegation from Mato Grosso is entirely funded by the state government through the State Department of Culture, Sport and Leisure (Secel) under the coordination of Jefférson Carvalho. According to him, the investment to be in one of the most important sporting events in the student area, the State disbursed around R$ 700 thousand just in airline tickets.

Next week, it will be the turn of teams from collective sports such as futsal, volleyball, basketball, handball and others to travel to Aracaju.

For Jefférson, it is the State’s bet on emerging talent. The return, according to the secretary, is beyond the medal conquests. “Sport is a social tool with great potential. It (sport), educates, disciplines, teaches rules, ethics and forms citizens. It is an investment that pays off in every way,” he said.

Mato Grosso’s representatives in the School Games came out of the State Student Games disputes – the champion and runner-up of each modality secure places in the national competition.
