“We managed to accomplish what has never been done in the state”, says Sergipe’s secretary of health about surgeries

The Secretary of State for Health, Mércia Feitosa, gave a live interview to Jornal da Fan, from Rádio Fan FM, on the morning of this Thursday, 31. in Sergipe.

According to Mércia, the state performed, in one year, from July 2021 to June 2022, 7,737 elective surgeries; “We managed to perform this number, which has never been done in the state of Sergipe. We look back on 2018, to the present day, in which there have never been more than 2,000 surgeries”, said the secretary.

“There are many comments that they are not able to perform the surgeries”, claimed the manager, who claimed to be carrying out a work together with the Sergipe municipalities. According to her, the cities present the needs and discuss with the State Department of Health which would be the priorities.

Mércia Feitosa also said that the reason for the large charge comes from a previous need, which already existed, but also because of the impact with the arrival of the new coronavirus. “The pandemic amplifies this need. We found people who were over two years old in need of surgery,” she explained.

“But now we are making access easier. Because, when we build a project to expand this surgery in a format in which that user is already attended by the surgeon and already has the guarantee of the results of their exams and the surgery itself, we speed up this process”, said the secretary. .
