Businessman sentenced to 21 years for killing friend and injuring girlfriend in Teresina

Businessman Pablo Henrique Campos Santos was sentenced to 21 years and eight months in prison for having run over and killed nurse Vanessa Carvalho and injured his then-girlfriend, Anuxa Alencar. The sentence was handed down during the dawn of this Wednesday (31), by Judge Antônio Noleto, of the 1st Rod of the Jury Court of the District of Teresina.

Pablo Campos was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the death of Vanessa Carvalho and to 10 years and eight months for the attempted femicide against Anuxa Alencar. The crime happened in September 2019, on the way out of a wedding party on the east side of the capital.

The trial of the case began around 9 am on Tuesday (30). Several witnesses for the defense and prosecution testified, including administrative assistant Anuxa Kelly Alencar, who stated that moments before the crime she had been threatened by Pablo Campos, during the party at which they were

Pablo Henrique Campos Santos took on the crime and said he “bitterly regrets it”. However, on the contrary, the accused says he does not remember the hit-and-run that resulted in the femicide of the nurse who was a friend of the couple. In court, he attributed the “forgetfulness” to alcohol addiction, the same allegation given during the instruction hearing.

The trial was also marked by protests from Vanessa Carvalho’s family and friends, who demanded the application of a maximum sentence to the defendant.
