Rural workers in a situation similar to slavery are rescued from farms in Minas Gerais – Clube Noticia

In recent days, 91 workers in a situation similar to slavery were rescued during a joint operation carried out by the Public Ministry of Labor of Minas Gerais, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Federal Highway Police.

The operation was carried out last weekend on three farms, two of which are coffee plantations in the city of Campos Altos/MG and one of corn husks in the city of Iraí de Minas/MG. The action ended this Tuesday afternoon (08/30), at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor, in Patos de Minas.

Of the 91 workers rescued, seven were minors. According to information passed on to Clube Notícia journalism, all those rescued were in an irregular situation. They were without sanitary facilities, canteens, potable water supply and personal protective equipment.

The prosecutor of the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, Paulo Gonçalves Veloso, said that the contractors signed a term of adjustment of conduct with compensation for moral and collective damages.

All workers were sent to the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor, in Patos de Minas, where they received the adjustments.
