Ex-wife of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), candidate for district deputy Ana Cristina Valle (PP-DF) informed the Electoral Court that she owns a mansion in Lago Sul, a prime area of Brasília.

Ana Cristina’s statement contrasts with a previous statement by the candidate herself, who denied last year to UOL that she owned the property where she lived with the president’s son 04, Jair Renan Bolsonaro.

The declaration of the mansion in the list of assets of Ana Cristina was revealed by the website Metrópoles and confirmed by Folha de S.Paulo.

In August 2021, when UOL showed that she and Jair Renan Bolsonaro moved to the residence in Lago Sul, a realtor who appeared as the owner of the property on the certificate said that the residence was rented.

At the time, the mansion was valued at around R$3 million by real estate brokers consulted by UOL. Ana Cristina informed the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), however, a much smaller amount: R$ 829 thousand.

The patrimonial declaration delivered to the Electoral Court is made by the candidates and there is no standard on how the assets should be described, nor verification of the data. Any omissions or inaccuracies discovered, almost always by the press, opponents or voters, can, in theory, be questioned by the Public Ministry and result in actions for electoral falsehood. Punishments for these cases, however, are very difficult.

The president’s ex-wife uses the urn name Cristina Bolsonaro.

In 2021, Ana Cristina worked in the office of federal deputy Celina Leão (PP-DF) and received a net salary of R$ 6,200.

The house has 1,200 square meters – 800 m² of built area – and includes a leisure space with a swimming pool, according to UOL. Sought by Folha de S.Paulo, Ana Cristina did not respond.

The Bolsonaro family’s real estate business has been the subject of several investigations and scandals since the beginning of the government.

Part of the period analyzed in the investigation of a possible “crack” in the office of councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) is from when the president and Cristina were still married.

In that period of time, between 2005 and 2008, the couple bought five plots of land, a commercial room in Resende (RJ) and a house in Bento Ribeiro, north of Rio de Janeiro.

Cristina’s declaration of assets includes a house in Resende (RJ), a room in the center of the state capital, and shares in the company Total Vox Telecomunicações. In all, there are R$ 1.046 million in goods.

Another case of the Bolsonaro family involving the acquisition of a mansion in Brasília during the Bolsonaro government happened with the president’s eldest son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).

He bought a R$6 million mansion in an upscale neighborhood in the federal capital and said in court that he used the income he earns as a lawyer, among others, to make the acquisition viable.

However, there are no records of cases in which the senator acts as a lawyer in the Federal District and Rio de Janeiro, two states in which the congressman has a valid OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) card.

Furthermore, a report by UOL released on Tuesday (30) showed that half of the Bolsonaro clan’s assets are made up of properties bought with cash.

Since the 1990s, the president, his brothers and sons have negotiated 107 properties. Of this total, 51 were acquired totally or partially using cash.

According to the UOL survey, purchases registered in the registry offices as having been paid in national currency total R$ 13.5 million.

Faced with the revelation, President Jair Bolsonaro said he saw no problems in buying real estate with cash. “What is the problem with buying a property with cash? I don’t know what is written in the article… What’s the problem?”, he said on Tuesday, after participating in a sabbath in Brasília.

In 2018, he had stated on Saturday that he did not pay cash because it could be stolen, preferring bank transactions.
