Approved in the first discussion of Hashioka’s Bill establishing Irrigated Agriculture Day

Irrigated agriculture may have a commemorative date in Mato Grosso do Sul. Bill 65/2024, authored by state deputy Roberto Hashioka (União Brasil), was approved today, the 9th, in the first discussion. The PL establishes Irrigated Agriculture Day, to be celebrated annually on June 15, and includes the celebration in the state’s Official Calendar of Events.

The date follows Federal Law 14,830/2024 and was chosen because it is close to the dry period, when food production depends entirely on irrigation. As there is great concern around the environment and the need to produce food in sufficient quality and quantity to meet the growing demands for food, the celebration aims to inform about the role of irrigated agriculture for sustainability in food production and for the development and food security.

“This was a request made by producers expressing the importance of irrigation for agriculture, especially when we are experiencing times of irregular rainfall and according to the study presented that says that Mato Grosso do Sul will have an increase in average temperature and prolonged times of drought”, he explained. .

For Hashioka, the practice offers greater security to producers and, in this way, guarantees bank financing. “The risk is lower, because those who have irrigated agriculture, for example, in two years, can produce five crops, instead of three for those who do not have this system. The date is a way of encouraging farmers to implement this technique in their crops”, explained the author of the proposal.
